One dead and ten injured in Shariatpur factional clash involving mass crude bomb explosions

One person was killed and at least 10 others were injured during a violent clash involving the detonation of over 100 improvised explosive devices in Shariatpur’s Zajira Upazila on Monday evening. The confrontation, sparked by a territorial dispute, occurred in the Laukhola area of Mulna Union.
The deceased has been identified as 70-year-old Mannan Sardar, a resident of Chardhupur Charkandi in the neighboring Senerchar Union.
Local authorities and residents reported that the violence stemmed from a long-standing power struggle between two rival factions led by Rezaul Shikdar and Tamiz Khan. The situation escalated into a full-scale clash at dusk, during which both groups engaged in an exchange of crude bomb explosions, causing widespread panic throughout the locality.
According to local reports, Rezaul Shikdar is affiliated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), while Tamiz Khan is a member of the Zajira Upazila committee of the now-banned Awami League.
Mannan Sardar, a supporter of Rezaul Shikdar’s faction, sustained critical injuries during the incident and was pronounced dead by physicians upon arrival at the Zajira Upazila Health Complex. Among the injured, Ripon Molla, a supporter of Tamiz Khan, suffered severe trauma to his hand. He received initial treatment at the local facility before being transferred to Dhaka for advanced care.
Zajira Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Roman Badshah confirmed that two victims were brought to the hospital following the explosions. He noted that the facility provided emergency stabilization to the wounded before referring the survivor to Dhaka.
Additional Superintendent of Police for the Naria Circle, Muhammad Mohiuddin Miraj, confirmed the fatality and stated that authorities were alerted to the mass detonation immediately. A heavy contingent of police has been deployed to the area to restore order, and officials have initiated an investigation to pursue legal action against those responsible for the violence.
