BSF Returns Body of Bangladeshi National Killed in Border Shooting to Kulaura Authorities

The body of 20-year-old Tara Mia, who was fatally shot by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Maguruli border in Moulvibazar’s Kulaura Upazila, has been returned to his family. The handover took place on Monday afternoon at the Chatlapur Immigration Checkpost in the presence of representatives from both nations.
Tara Mia, the son of Abdul Malek and Ajirunnessa from the Muruichhara slum area in Kormodha Union, was killed late Saturday night. According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the victim was part of a group of smugglers that had crossed approximately 500 yards into Indian territory. Following the incident, Indian authorities recovered the body and transported it to the morgue at Kailashahar Hospital.
The repatriation followed a flag meeting between the BGB and the BSF held at 5:00 p.m. The Indian delegation included Inspector Srikanta Chakraborty of the Irani Police Station in Tripura and A.C. Rohit, the Maguruli Company Commander of the BSF’s 199th Battalion. Representing Bangladesh were Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Zahirul Islam, BGB Alinagar Company Commander Subedar Kazi Nasim, local union parishad member Sylvester Pathang, and the victim’s older brother, Raju Mia.
In parallel with the repatriation, the BGB filed a formal case with the Kulaura Police Station earlier on Monday, charging four of Tara Mia’s alleged accomplices with smuggling. The accused individuals are all residents of various areas within Kormodha Union.
Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Zahirul Islam stated that law enforcement is currently conducting operations to apprehend the suspects.
