Coast Guard Seizes 250,000 Yaba Pills off Chittagong Coast, Two Detained

Coast Guard personnel seized 250,000 Yaba pills with an estimated market value of 125 million taka during an operation in the outer anchorage area of the Chittagong coast late Sunday. Two individuals were taken into custody following a high-speed maritime pursuit.
The operation, codenamed Operation Samudra Prohara, took place at approximately 3:00 a.m. when Coast Guard ships Kutubdia and Outpost Patenga identified a suspicious vessel. Officials stated that the vessel attempted to flee rather than comply with signals to stop, prompting a chase that ultimately ended when the Coast Guard intercepted the craft.
The two suspects apprehended during the incident have been identified as 60-year-old Muhammad Rahim and 55-year-old Md. Rashid. Both men are residents of the Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp located in Ukhia. Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, a media officer for the Coast Guard, confirmed the arrests and the seizure of the vessel in a press statement released Monday afternoon.
Preliminary interrogations suggest that a organized drug trafficking syndicate had sourced the contraband from various locations in Myanmar with the intent of smuggling the shipment into Chittagong. Authorities noted that the syndicate had been under surveillance for an extended period due to intelligence reports.
The Coast Guard is currently coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to identify and capture remaining members of the trafficking network. The seized narcotics, the vessel, and the two suspects have been handed over for further legal proceedings.
