Four Men Confess to Rape and Murder of Five-Year-Old Girl in Mymensingh

Four young men have confessed to the brutal gang rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Dhobaura, Mymensingh, following her abduction under the guise of being offered flowers. The suspects, all aged between 19 and 21, provided detailed judicial confessions before Magistrate Tanay Saha at the Mymensingh Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court over the past two days.
The harrowing incident began Sunday evening when the child disappeared near her home. After an extensive search by family members and local residents, her body was discovered approximately 500 yards away, buried in the mud along the banks of the Kangsa River. Relatives initially attempted to prepare the child for burial, but halted the process upon noticing severe physical trauma, which prompted them to notify the authorities.
According to police investigations, the four suspects—identified as Maruf Mia, Arif Mia, Rakib Mia, and Md. Saim Mia—lured the girl to a secluded, jungle-covered area near the riverbank by promising her kadam flowers. Following the assault, the suspects admitted to drowning the child in the river to ensure she was dead, before burying her in the mud to conceal their crime and prevent detection.
District Police Superintendent Mohammad Kamrul Hasan confirmed that all four suspects have been apprehended. He stated that the police department has been instructed to expedite the filing of the formal charge sheet to ensure a swift legal resolution. In a significant display of public condemnation, Mymensingh District Bar Association President Nurul Haque announced that no lawyer will represent the suspects in court, citing the extreme depravity of the crime.
The case has drawn high-level attention, with BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh visiting the victim’s family to offer condolences on behalf of the party leadership. Saleh, who met with the Minister of Law to discuss the case, reported that the government has committed to ensuring a fast-track trial, similar to other high-profile cases of violence against children, to guarantee justice for the victim. The suspects remain in custody, awaiting the start of formal judicial proceedings.
