Suspected transformer thief arrested in Netrokona as accomplices flee

Local residents in the Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona apprehended a suspected thief early Saturday morning during an attempt to steal a transformer from a rural electrification power line. The suspect, 21-year-old Kawsar Mia, was captured as he and three accomplices attempted to load the stolen equipment into a pickup truck in the Konadahar area of Bishkakuni Union.
According to local reports and police, the incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. near the residence of a local villager. Residents discovered the group dismantling a transformer from a utility pole and intervened, successfully detaining Mia while his three associates managed to evade capture and flee the scene. A pickup truck believed to be used in the commission of the theft was seized by authorities at the site.
Following the apprehension, Dulal Hossain, an Assistant General Manager for the Palli Bidyut Samity, filed a formal complaint with the Purbadhala police station on Sunday morning. Mia, a resident of Char-Kharicha village in the Mymensingh Kotwali area, was subsequently processed and remanded into custody by a local court later that afternoon.
Purbadhala Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun stated that investigations are ongoing. Authorities have launched an operation to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to escape.
