Youth shot at Lalmonirhat border, died on the way to hospital

A youth died after being shot in Amjhol border area of Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat. He was shot in the Banchowki BOP area of the upazila on Thursday morning. Later, when he was taken to a private clinic in Rangpur with serious injuries, the doctor declared him dead.
The name of the deceased is Khademul Islam (25). He is the son of Amjad Hossain of North Amjhol village of Gotamari Union of Hatibandha Upazila.
According to the local people, some people including Khademul entered India through the area adjacent to the 905/6 S pillar of the border yesterday around two o’clock on Wednesday night. At one point they reached a barbed wire fence. There the patrol team of Pagalmari camp of 78 BSF battalion of India fired at them. Khademul was shot in the face, chest and head.
Later, the helpers rescued Khademul in an injured condition and brought him to Bangladesh. When his condition worsened, he was taken to a private clinic in Rangpur. The doctor on duty there declared him dead. His body was taken to his village home this afternoon.
However, Khademul’s relatives and neighbors claim that Khademul went to the river ghat to catch fish. At that time BSF opened fire.
In this incident, a press release was published on behalf of Lalmonirhat 15 BGB battalion today at noon. It is said that they got the information that a Bangladeshi citizen named Khademul Islam was injured in the border area. When the local people took him to Rangpur for treatment, the doctor declared him dead.
The notification also said that immediately after the incident, the BGB started investigating the matter seriously and contacted the concerned 78 BSF battalion. Initially, the BSF authorities assured that the incident would be investigated but later denied any involvement in the incident.
Lalmonirhat 15 BGB Commander Lt. Col. Mehdi Imam said in the circular that investigation is underway to find the real cause of the incident. Various possibilities are being considered after reviewing the nature of injuries on the body of the deceased Khademul. The cause of death is expected to be clear after the post-mortem report is received. In this incident, the flag meeting process is going on at the level of company commander and battalion commander.
Hatibandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ramzan Ali told Prothom Alo this afternoon that after receiving information from local sources and BGB, the police went to the house of the deceased and prepared a report. Later, the body will be sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem. The actual cause of death will be known after the post-mortem.
The OC also said that legal action will be taken by the police and the family of the deceased Khademul.
