58 victims identified around custody rally: Chief Prosecutor

In May 2013, 58 people were killed in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Comilla and Chittagong around the meeting of Hefazet Islam in Shapla Chatter of Motijheel in the capital, said Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam. He said, they have identified the identity of these 58 people.

The chief prosecutor said this to reporters in a briefing at his office at the International Criminal Tribunal on Tuesday.

Aminul Islam said, the inquiry of the tribunal’s investigation agency has so far revealed that on May 5, 2013 (day and night) 32 people were killed in Shapla Chatwar or Dhaka alone. They have identified the identity of these 32 people. Some of them have been autopsied. Many did not. The identity of these 32 people has been confirmed in the investigation along with their graves, conversations with family members.

The chief prosecutor said that the next day (May 6, 2013) 20 people were killed in Narayanganj. The identity of these 20 people has also been identified. Five people were killed in Chittagong on the same day. And one was killed in Comilla.

Aminul Islam said that so far 58 people have been killed. And they (Tribunal’s Prosecution and Investigation Agency) have identified all of them.

The chief prosecutor said that the investigation of this case is almost at the final stage. He said that the date of submitting the investigation report of this case is scheduled on June 7. It can be submitted on the same day.

Earlier on Sunday, the Chief Prosecutor told Prothom Alo that until then they had received information about the death of 57 people in Dhaka, Narayanganj and Chittagong around the custody rally. He informed today that one person was killed in this incident in Comilla.

The Chief Prosecutor also said on Sunday that 32 victims of the murder in Dhaka have been identified. It was found that 20 people were killed in Narayanganj and 5 people in Chittagong. The investigation agency of the tribunal is continuing to identify the victims of Narayanganj and Chittagong. Today he gave the identification information of a total of 58 people.

In May 2013, a case of crimes against humanity is ongoing in the International Criminal Tribunal for the killing of the Hefazet Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel of the capital.
