College student arrested in Panchagarh for offensive post on Minister of State for Water Resources

A college student named Nishad Islam (20) has been arrested by the police for posting offensive posts on the social media Facebook about State Minister for Water Resources and Member of Parliament for Panchagarh-II Constituency Farhad Hossain Azad. He was arrested in Hajipara area of Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh on Friday midnight.
Abdus Salam, the senior joint convener of Debiganj Sadar Union Youth Dal, filed a case under the Cyber Protection Act against the student on Saturday morning. The police sent him to the court in the afternoon showing his arrest in that case. Arrested Nishad Islam son of Ashraful Alam of Hajipara area of Debiganj Sadar Union. He is a 12th class student of Sonahar Technical and BM College.
According to police and local sources, yesterday Nishad Islam posted a picture of Water Resources State Minister Farhad Hossain Azad’s speech in the National Assembly from his Facebook ID ‘Nishad Islam’ and wrote an offensive caption. When the post spread, discontent spread among the leaders and workers of the local BNP and allied organizations. Later, the police arrested the student at night to control the situation and investigate the matter.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Debiganj Police Station. Salim Malik said that there was tension in the area due to the posting of objectionable posts on the Minister of State for Water Resources on Facebook. When there was a threat of an attack on the young man’s house, he was brought to the police station to control the situation and verify the matter. It is confirmed that the post was made by the young man. Later today someone filed a case against him under the Cyber Protection Act. Arrested in that case, he was sent to court in the afternoon.
