NARAYANGANJ — Police have detained two young men after a video of them brandishing imitation firearms in a public park in Narayanganj circulated widely on social media, sparking public concern over local security.

The 35-second video, which drew significant criticism online, showed the two men dressed in traditional kurtas and skullcaps walking through what was formerly known as the Sheikh Russell Nahar Park—now referred to as the City Nagar Park. In the footage, the pair appeared to point the imitation weapons at passersby, rickshaw pullers, and children. The video was originally posted to a TikTok account named “Bhaibon” before being reshared on Limon’s personal Instagram and Facebook profiles.

Additional Superintendent of Police for Narayanganj District, Tareq Al Mehedi, confirmed that the items were identified as toys. Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects intended to use the footage for social media content. According to police, Toha, the son of Shahin Ahmed, completed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in 2024 and has been active on TikTok for seven years. Molla, the son of Swapan Molla, completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) in 2022 and has been creating TikTok content for two years.

Prior to the arrests, the incident raised questions regarding law enforcement oversight in the area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Sajedur Rahman had initially stated that police were unaware of the specific video but committed to investigating the matter once the content surfaced.

Police officials stated that legal proceedings against the two men are currently underway.
