Two Indian Nationals Arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport With Over Five Kilograms of Kush

Authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka have arrested two Indian nationals for attempting to smuggle 5.12 kilograms of Kush, a potent synthetic narcotic. The suspects were apprehended by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) following a tip-off.
The detainees, identified as 46-year-old Abdul Rahman and 45-year-old Mohammad Iqbal Ansari, both residents of West Bengal, India, were intercepted on Thursday at approximately 1:00 p.m. The individuals had arrived at the airport’s Green Channel via a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok.
During a search of their travel trolleys conducted in the presence of airport security personnel, officials recovered 5.12 kilograms of Kush. In addition to the narcotics, authorities seized two Indian passports, 500 U.S. dollars, 10,000 Indian rupees, and three smartphones. Inspector Shahria Sharmin of the DNC’s airport circle has since filed a case against the suspects under the Narcotics Control Act at the Airport Police Station.
The DNC has characterized Kush as a highly potent and dangerous synthetic drug. This seizure marks the latest in a series of similar attempts to traffic the substance through the Dhaka airport.
On August 18, officials recovered 4.18 kilograms of Kush, though two Indian suspects identified as Akash Dubey and Akash Pandey managed to flee, leaving behind their luggage and copies of their passports. A case was filed against them following the incident.
Subsequent enforcement actions included the August 22 arrest of Hussain Abdul Kader Sheikh, a resident of Karnataka, India, who was caught with 3 kilograms of the drug after arriving on a flight from Bangkok. Two days later, on August 24, DNC officials arrested two more West Bengal residents, Sanowar Ali and Imtiaz Ahmed, with 5.04 kilograms of Kush.
