Two Children Drown in Separate Incidents in Kurigram Ulipur Upazila

Two children drowned in separate incidents in Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram district on Thursday. The fatalities occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. across different locations within the sub-district.
The deceased have been identified as four-year-old Arman, son of Yunus Ali from West Naodanga village, and three-year-old Masud Rana, son of Nur Alam from Umananda village in the Tabakpur Union.
According to family members and local residents, Masud Rana went missing while playing near his home. After an extensive search, relatives recovered him from a nearby pond at approximately 12:00 p.m. and rushed him to the Ulipur Upazila Health Complex, where attending physicians declared him dead.
In a similar incident in West Naodanga village, Arman fell into a pond while playing near his house. Family members discovered him in the water and transported him to the Ulipur Upazila Health Complex at 9:00 a.m., where he was also pronounced dead upon arrival.
Separately, a girl named Sumaiya Khatun fell into a body of water in Doklapara village under the Daldalia Union at approximately 8:30 a.m. She was initially taken to the Ulipur Upazila Health Complex, but due to her deteriorating condition, medical staff referred her to the Kurigram General Hospital for advanced treatment.
Tanzirul Islam, the Resident Medical Officer at the Ulipur Upazila Health Complex, confirmed that Masud Rana and Arman were deceased before they arrived at the facility. He added that Sumaiya Khatun remains under specialized care at the general hospital.
Syed Ibn Siddique, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ulipur Police Station, stated that the body of Masud Rana was released to his family following legal procedures, as there were no formal complaints filed by his relatives. A case of unnatural death has been recorded regarding the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Arman.
