Dhaka Police Seize Motorcycle Used in Multimillion Taka Filling Station Heist

Detectives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have seized a motorcycle used in the robbery of 12.12 million taka from an employee of DL Filling Station in the capital’s Uttara area.
The vehicle was recovered Thursday night during an operation conducted by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Uttara Division at a garage in the Nandipara area under Khilgaon Police Station. The raid followed information provided by suspect Sagar Baroi, 40, who was previously apprehended in connection with the heist.
According to a press release issued by the DMP Media and Public Relations Division on Friday, the details were confirmed by Md. Ilias Kabir, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the DB Uttara Division, during a press conference held at the DB headquarters on Minto Road. The official statement did not specify the identity of the individual who operated the motorcycle during the commission of the crime. Attempts to reach DC Ilias Kabir for further clarification were unsuccessful.
Authorities stated that the investigation into the robbery remains a priority. To date, law enforcement has arrested five individuals, including Sagar Baroi, across various locations in Dhaka and Narayanganj. During these operations, officers recovered four firearms along with a portion of the stolen cash and other evidence. Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover additional weapons are ongoing.
The incident occurred on the morning of August 9, when armed assailants intercepted a DL Filling Station employee near the Crown Plaza hotel on Airport Road. The victim was en route to deposit 12.12 million taka at a bank when the attackers assaulted him and fled with the cash. Following the incident, the station’s manager, Abdul Karim, filed a case at the Airport Police Station naming six to seven unidentified suspects.
Including the arrests made by the Detective Branch, a total of eight individuals have been taken into custody by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police in connection with the robbery. Recovered items from the combined operations include 6 million taka in cash, a foreign-made pistol, ammunition, magazines, handcuffs, and wireless communication sets.
