Rajshahi University Jatiyatabadi Chhatradal hosts mock voucher fair over alleged financial irregularities in RAKSU funds

The Rajshahi University unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) organized a “Voucher Fair” on Friday to protest the alleged failure of Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RAKSU) representatives to submit expenditure vouchers for funds withdrawn from the organization.
The event, held at the university’s Transport Market, featured satirical displays mocking the financial management of RAKSU leaders. The protesters alleged that RAKSU representatives withdrew 12.91 million taka for 42 separate programs, yet failed to provide documentation for 6.15 million taka of that expenditure. This demonstration followed a protest rally held on the campus late Thursday night.
The exhibition consisted of eight stalls, each displaying banners with satirical cartoons and labels mocking RAKSU’s operational costs. Mock vouchers were displayed for items and events including breakfast bills, shovels, sewing machines, workshops, seminars, sound systems, a trip to Nepal, and a Qawwali performance. One prominent display featured a graphic of a money locker with the caption, “Everyone’s accounts balance, mine do not.”
S.M. Mahmudul Hasan, the organizing secretary of the Rajshahi University JCD unit, claimed that RAKSU representatives have been scrambling to fabricate vouchers to cover their unexplained expenses. He stated that the fair was organized under the banner of “Extraordinary Students of Rajshahi University” to bring accountability to the process, sarcastically adding that the “Rajshahi University Voucher Society” would provide assistance to any representative needing help balancing their books.
Gazi Ferdous Hasan, president of the Bijoy-24 Hall unit of the JCD, echoed these sentiments, noting that the protest was a direct response to the documented failure of the RAKSU Vice President, General Secretary, and Assistant General Secretary to substantiate their expenditures.
In response, RAKSU issued a statement on Thursday dismissing the allegations as misleading and based on incomplete information. RAKSU maintained that its financial operations are transparent and stated they would welcome any logical discussion once a formal audit is conducted.
RAKSU General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar further addressed the controversy on social media, asserting that the organization’s term has not yet concluded. He stated that a comprehensive audit will be performed following the end of their tenure, at which point the respective editors will present their financial records to the public.
