Police recover missing service weapon and ammunition in Old Dhaka drainage canal

Detectives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recovered a lost police firearm and ammunition during an operation in the Gendaria area of Old Dhaka. The discovery was confirmed by the DMP’s media and public relations department on Saturday.

The operation was conducted on Friday afternoon after intelligence reports led officers to a drain adjacent to a railway line, located opposite the Regal CNG pump in the Ghuntighar area of Gendaria. Alongside the firearm, authorities recovered an empty magazine and nine shotgun cartridges.

Preliminary investigations by the Lalbagh Division of the Detective Branch (DB) suggest that the recovered weapon and equipment belonged to the police force. Officials suspect the firearm went missing during the mass uprising on August 5, 2024.
