Kannada superstar Yash starrer Toxic A Fairytale for Grown-Ups secures censor board approval for global release

The highly anticipated Kannada action film “Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups,” starring superstar Yash, has received certification from India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its global release on August 26. The board has granted the film an “A” rating, restricting viewership to adult audiences, without requiring any cuts to the footage despite concerns regarding its violent content.
According to the CBFC, the bilingual feature, produced in Kannada and English, has a total runtime of three hours and 12 minutes. While the board did not mandate the removal of any scenes, it did direct the filmmakers to mute or modify two objectionable words in the Kannada version, along with corresponding corrections to the English subtitles. Furthermore, the production is required to display mandatory anti-smoking and anti-drinking warnings throughout the film.
The project has generated significant international discourse due to its mature themes, including portrayals of violence and sexual elements. The film has already received a similar adults-only classification in the United Kingdom. Yash previously clarified the film’s intended demographic during an Indian talk show, advising parents against taking children to screenings and emphasizing the film’s tagline as a fairy tale specifically designed for an adult audience.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, “Toxic” features a prominent ensemble cast, including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, and Rukmini Vasant. The film is set to open in theaters worldwide on August 26, buoyed by heavy anticipation and intense public scrutiny.
