Three arrested in Dhaka after armed robbers snatch 3.8 million taka in Dhanmondi

Three suspected robbers were arrested following a brazen daylight mugging in the Dhanmondi area of the capital on Sunday, during which they snatched 3.8 million taka from a man leaving a bank.

The incident occurred near the Dhanmondi Lake area when the victim was intercepted by three individuals on a motorcycle who forcibly took his bag of cash and attempted to flee. The victim immediately pursued the suspects, causing one of the riders to fall from the motorcycle. Local residents apprehended the individual and recovered a revolver along with four rounds of ammunition.

The national emergency service 999 confirmed the details on Monday, noting that a witness had placed an emergency call immediately following the incident. Upon receiving the report, officers from the Dhanmondi Police Station arrived at the scene and took the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Tanvir Abedin, into custody.

Following the initial arrest, the Dhanmondi police and the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police launched a joint operation based on information provided by the suspect. The operation led to the apprehension of two additional members of the criminal ring, identified as 60-year-old Md. Mujibur Rahman and 60-year-old Md. Zakir Hossain, also known as Captain Zakir.
