Bride abducted by armed group in Kishoreganj following wedding ceremony

A bride was forcibly abducted from a microbus by a group of men in Hossainpur, Kishoreganj, on Sunday night, prompting a police investigation into the kidnapping and vandalism.
The incident occurred near the Hajipur Bazar area in the Jinari Union at approximately 7:45 p.m. as the wedding party was returning from a ceremony in the Sidla Union. According to the police and the formal complaint filed by the groom’s family, a group of 20 to 25 individuals intercepted the vehicle, damaged the microbus, and seized the bride.
The primary suspect has been identified as Atiqur Rahman, also known as Miad, a resident of Char Hajipur village and the son of Mojibur. Local political figures confirmed that Rahman is a supporter of Jatiyatabadi Chhatradal. Following the abduction, a post appeared on Rahman’s personal Facebook account stating, “Nothing left to ask for in life.” Attempts to reach him by phone throughout Monday were unsuccessful as his device remained switched off.
Shariful Islam, the president of the district unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatradal, acknowledged the incident but noted that because Rahman does not hold an official party position, the organization lacks the mandate to take formal disciplinary action against him.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hossainpur Police Station, Mohammad Rashedul Islam, confirmed that the groom’s family has submitted a written complaint. Preliminary reports from the bride’s family suggest that the victim had been subjected to long-term harassment by the suspect. However, local residents have alleged that the suspect and the bride had been in a prior romantic relationship and that the abduction was motivated by the family’s refusal to consent to the marriage.
Police stated that the investigation is ongoing and that appropriate legal measures will be taken once the facts are verified. No arrests have been made as of Monday evening.
