Government approves new pay scale for civil servants with phased salary hikes and disability allowance for children

The government has announced the introduction of a new allowance for children with special needs belonging to public sector employees. Under this policy, employees will receive a monthly stipend of 3,000 taka for each child with special needs.
The decision was finalized on Monday during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tareque Rahman at the Secretariat. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Goni later briefed the media at the Press Information Department regarding the comprehensive revisions to the pay structure.
In addition to the new disability allowance, the government has expanded mobile service benefits. Previously restricted to employees in the fifth grade, the mobile allowance will now be extended to personnel across all pay grades to accommodate rising costs related to internet and digital communication.
The government has opted to maintain the existing 20-grade structure while increasing base salaries by up to 142 percent. Employees in grades one through 11 will see a 100 percent increase in base pay, while those in grades 12 through 20 will receive increases ranging from 115 to 142 percent.
Implementation of the new pay scale will be phased rather than immediate, a decision reached after considering fiscal constraints and the potential impact on inflation. The base salary adjustments are scheduled to be rolled out in three stages between July 1 of this year and 2027. Conversely, the revised benefit and allowance packages are slated to take effect simultaneously on January 1, 2028.
