CID Arrests Human Trafficking Suspect at Dhaka Airport Over Saudi Arabia Job Scam

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Bangladesh Police has arrested a member of a human trafficking syndicate accused of defrauding and torturing a job seeker in Saudi Arabia. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Md. Salman Hossain, was apprehended at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday.
According to a press release issued by the CID, the suspect and his associates allegedly lured the victim with promises of lucrative employment at a fast-food restaurant in Saudi Arabia, collecting 600,000 taka for the arrangement. The victim was sent abroad on June 7 of last year, but upon arrival, the promised job failed to materialize.
Investigators state that the syndicate held the victim captive in a residential property in Saudi Arabia, where he was subjected to physical abuse. The traffickers demanded additional funds from the victim’s family under the guise of processing residency permits, known as Iqama.
The victim eventually managed to escape the confinement and sought refuge with a local resident in a desert area. He was later detained by Saudi authorities and repatriated to Bangladesh on July 22.
Following his return, the victim’s wife filed a case under the Human Trafficking Deterrence and Suppression Act at Savar Police Station. CID officials noted that preliminary investigations confirmed the suspect’s direct involvement, specifically identifying his residence as the location where the victim was held against his will.
The CID is continuing its investigation to identify other members of the syndicate, including accomplices operating both domestically and abroad.
