Man whose wedding was cancelled over whole goat dispute ties the knot in Brahmanbaria

A man in Brahmanbaria, whose marriage was called off earlier this week after he reportedly argued over the absence of a whole roasted goat at his wedding feast, has married another woman. Junaed Miah, a resident of Niamatpur village in Kasba Upazila, finalized his nuptials late Tuesday night at the home of his new bride’s uncle.

The incident that led to the cancellation of his previous wedding occurred Tuesday afternoon in Akhaura. Miah, an expatriate living in Japan and the son of Abdul Jalil, had traveled to the home of Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan to marry his daughter, Rasheda Akter. However, the ceremony was aborted when Miah engaged in a heated argument with the bride’s family after discovering that a whole roasted goat had not been served as part of the meal. Consequently, the bride’s family refused to proceed with the marriage and sent Miah and his entourage away.

Following the fallout, Miah married Jannatul Ferdous Akter, a first-year undergraduate student at Sayedabad Government College and the daughter of Zaher Miah from Nurpur village. The wedding took place at the home of the bride’s maternal uncle, Tajul Islam Sarkar, located in Miah’s own village.

Parvez Rana, the groom’s younger brother, stated that the bride’s family initiated the contact following the cancellation of the earlier ceremony. The marriage was formalized on Tuesday night with a dowry of 600,000 taka. According to family members, Miah, who was scheduled to return to Japan by August 30, is now seeking to extend his leave.

Addressing the controversy on social media, Miah posted a photograph with his new wife shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, expressing gratitude that the marriage had been concluded and requesting prayers for the couple’s future. Video footage from the event confirmed that the meal provided by the new bride’s family included a whole roasted goat, which was served to the groom and his party without incident.
