Dhaka Metropolitan Police Arrest 491 Individuals in Citywide Anti-Crime Operation

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 491 individuals across the capital during a series of anti-crime operations conducted over a 24-hour period ending at midnight on Thursday. Authorities have filed 39 separate cases in connection with these arrests at various police stations throughout the city.

Niaz Mehedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the DMP, confirmed the details of the security sweep on Friday. The operations, which spanned from midnight Wednesday to midnight Thursday, were part of an ongoing initiative to bolster public safety in the metropolitan area.

A breakdown of the arrests provided by the DMP indicates that the highest number of detainees, 156, were apprehended in the Mirpur division. Other significant numbers include 59 arrests each in the Tejgaon and Gulshan divisions, 56 in the Uttara division, 48 each in the Wari and Motijheel divisions, 41 in Lalbagh, 20 in Ramna, and four by the Detective Branch of the DMP.

During these operations, law enforcement officers recovered a variety of illegal items, including one foreign-made revolver, a single bullet, four spent shell casings, and 10,071 Yaba tablets. Seized contraband also included 120 grams of cannabis, 44 grams of heroin, and an assortment of weapons and electronic equipment, specifically one Chinese axe, one machete, a metal pipe, a computer monitor, a CPU, and six mobile phones.

This recent enforcement action follows a similar operation conducted in the preceding 24-hour period between Tuesday and Wednesday, during which DMP officers arrested 560 individuals.
