Computer Institute student dies after being pushed from auto-rickshaw by muggers in Feni

FENI — A 24-year-old student died after being robbed and pushed from a moving auto-rickshaw onto the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, where he was subsequently struck by a passing covered van. The victim, Mofadul Islam Yamin, was a fourth-year student at the Feni Computer Institute.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon near the Fatehpur flyover in Feni Sadar Upazila. Yamin, who also worked part-time at a local biscuit factory called SNB Nice Food, was en route to his college to sit for an examination when the attack took place.
According to family members and accounts provided by the victim prior to his death, Yamin boarded a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and sat in the front passenger seat. Two individuals posing as passengers in the back seat grabbed him, forcibly took his mobile phone and wallet, and pushed him out of the vehicle onto the highway. A speeding covered van struck him immediately after he landed on the road.
Local bystanders initially transported Yamin to the Feni 250-bed General Hospital. Given the severity of his injuries, which included fractures to his right leg and extensive trauma to his arm, medical staff referred him to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Yamin succumbed to his injuries while in transit near Sitakunda later that night.
Arif Hossain, an expatriate who witnessed the aftermath, stated that he discovered the victim on the flyover and contacted emergency services via the 999 hotline. A vehicle from the victim’s workplace later assisted in transporting him for initial medical care.
Following the incident, police retrieved Yamin’s body from his home to conduct an autopsy at the Feni General Hospital morgue, as news of the fatality circulated on social media. The body was released to the family on Tuesday afternoon.
Inspector Asadul Islam of the Mohipal Highway Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway. Authorities are currently attempting to identify the auto-rickshaw involved in the robbery and the driver of the covered van that fled the scene. “We are investigating the family’s report that the individuals in the auto-rickshaw were robbers,” Islam stated, noting that legal proceedings are ongoing.
