College student drowns at Sadapathar tourist spot in Sylhet

A 21-year-old college student drowned while swimming with friends at the Sadapathor tourist spot in Companiganj, Sylhet, on Saturday morning. The victim, identified as Mainul Islam, was a first-year undergraduate student at Nabinagar Government College.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. According to the victim’s friend, Sabbir Rahman, the group of four friends arrived at the tourist destination from Brahmanbaria earlier that morning. While swimming, the others noticed that Mainul had disappeared beneath the surface. After a search operation lasting nearly an hour, his friends and local residents recovered his body from the river.
Mainul Islam was the son of Hatim Mia, a resident of Nabinagar Upazila in Brahmanbaria.
Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Osman Gani confirmed the fatality. The victim’s body has been transported to the Companiganj Upazila Health Complex. Authorities stated that legal procedures regarding the incident are currently underway.
