Bangladesh and China Sign Landmark Vocational Education and Research Agreement to Enhance Skills Development

Bangladesh and China have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a joint vocational education, training, and research center, a move officials say will elevate diplomatic ties through enhanced collaboration in technical skills development. The agreement was finalized Friday during the China-Bangladesh Education Exchange Conference held at the Jiangxi University of Science and Technology.

Mahdi Amin, Education Advisor to the Prime Minister, stated that the partnership signifies a new chapter in technical education cooperation. He emphasized that the initiative aims to move beyond formal agreements by translating collaboration into tangible employment opportunities for the youth. The government’s core objective, Amin noted, is to transform education into skills, skills into employment, and employment into socio-economic opportunities.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon highlighted that Bangladesh’s large, active youth population is a primary national asset. He added that with access to quality technical education and modern practical training, this demographic could become a highly productive and globally competitive workforce, significantly contributing to the nation’s future industrial and economic growth.

The MoU was signed by Md. Daud Mia, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division of the Ministry of Education, and Professor Zheng Pengwu, Vice President of Jiangxi University. The agreement facilitates cooperation in vocational training programs, the development of bilingual educational materials, industrial training integration, and the establishment of specialized research centers. Furthermore, the parties intend to leverage investments from Chinese enterprises operating in Bangladesh to strengthen practical training facilities.

Mahdi Amin and Professor Pei Hongwei launched the Bangladesh Vocational Education Research Center at Jiangxi University, while Secretary Daud Mia and Professor Zheng Pengwu inaugurated the Bangladesh Chinese Language + Skill Development Cooperation Center.

These initiatives are expected to foster comprehensive cooperation, including student and faculty exchanges, curriculum development, and industry-linked training. The event was attended by representatives from 19 Chinese universities and technical institutes, alongside senior Chinese officials, including Jiangxi University Party Secretary Professor Pei Hongwei and Director of International Affairs Wu Juwen.
