Sarjis Alam warns BNP against political drift as NCP demands accountability for rising violence

Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer for the northern region of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), warned on Friday that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) risks failure and political derailment due to its inability to accept constructive criticism. Addressing reporters before an organizational meeting at the Chandpur Press Club, Alam stated that the BNP’s tendency to misinterpret critique as partisan opposition is detrimental to both the party and the nation.
Alam sharply criticized the current administration’s handling of recent violence, specifically the quadruple homicide in Rangpur. He expressed deep frustration over the lack of progress in apprehending the perpetrators, noting that the incident has caused significant distress among students and the general public. He demanded that the government take immediate, concrete action to ensure justice for all recent incidents of murder and rape across the country.
The NCP leader also challenged Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, accusing him of evading accountability regarding these security failures. According to Alam, when the minister is questioned in parliament about the state of law and order, he deflects by bringing up irrelevant historical events at Shahbagh or Paltan and dismisses his questioners.
Highlighting the case of the murder of Osman Hadi, Alam noted that there is sufficient photographic and video evidence identifying the culprits, some of whom have reportedly been detained in India. Despite this, he claimed that the government continues to offer vague assurances about ongoing processes without delivering any tangible results. Alam warned that failing to secure justice for these crimes will lead to a continued deterioration of the national law and order situation.
The event, held in Chandpur, was chaired by the district’s NCP convener, Md. Mahbub Alam, and moderated by member secretary Amanullah Patwari. Other notable attendees included party joint conveners Ali Ahsan Junaid and Sarwar Tushar, joint member secretary Saleh Uddin, Comilla divisional organizing secretary Ataullah, and organizing secretary Rifat Rashid.
