Children showcase patriotism and national heritage in Dhaka art competition

DHAKA – More than one hundred children and teenagers gathered at the Nazrul Institute in the capital’s Dhanmondi area on Friday to participate in a fine arts competition titled “Harmony and Independence.” The event, jointly organized by the Swadhinata Sangskritik Parishad and the Swadhinata Charushilpi Parishad, aimed to instill national history, cultural heritage, and values of secularism among the younger generation.
Renowned painter and Ekushey Padak recipient Professor Jamal Ahmed inaugurated the competition. Addressing the participants, he urged the young artists to cultivate a deep love for their country and its people. He emphasized that building a meaningful life requires a firm grasp of national history and a commitment to working for the welfare of all segments of society.
The competition was divided into three age-based categories, each reflecting themes of national identity. Students from preschool to third grade competed in the “Padma Group” on the subject of “Our Rivers,” while fourth to seventh-grade students in the “Meghna Group” illustrated “Independence and Harmony.” Students from eighth to tenth grade participated in the “Jamuna Group” under the theme “Bangladesh in Consciousness.”
Twelve winners were awarded top prizes, four from each category. All participants received certificates of merit for their contributions to the event.
In the Padma Group, Wajiha Hasan of Little Angels School secured first place, followed by Yas Rahman of Angel Academy, Mehrima Naumi of Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls’ School and College, and Samprita Roy of Little Angels School. The Meghna Group saw Kamrun Nahar of Silver Dale Preparatory School take first place, with Nazia Mehjabin of Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public School, Tasfia Muhib of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, and Prakriti Chowdhury of Oxford International School following in subsequent positions. In the Jamuna Group, Tajkaba Ferdous Jol of Oxford International School claimed first place, followed by Miftahul Islam of Birshreshtha Noor Mohammad Public School, Sheikh Nazzashijaman of Mastermind School and College, and Arafat Islam of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Boys’ High School.
Ashraful Alam, convener of the Swadhinata Sangskritik Parishad and member secretary of the Swadhinata Charushilpi Parishad, noted that the initiative was designed to promote the mental development of children while raising awareness about the history of the nation’s independence and the importance of social harmony. He expressed his gratitude to the participants and their families for their support in fostering a creative environment.
