Police Arrest Two in Dhaka for Stabbing Expatriate Over Personal Dispute

MOHAMMADPUR, DHAKA — Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal stabbing of 25-year-old expatriate Laskar Hridoy in the capital’s Mohammadpur area. The suspects have been identified as Shanto, 25, and Billal, also known as Kala Billal, 25.
Authorities confirmed the arrests during a press conference held Friday at the Mohammadpur Police Station. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Jewel Rana of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Tejgaon Division stated that the attack was motivated by a dispute over Hridoy’s ongoing contact with his former wife.
According to police investigations, Hridoy had previously been married to a woman who later entered a relationship with a local gang leader identified as Munna, alias Captain Munna. After the woman left Hridoy to marry Munna, Hridoy moved to Saudi Arabia. Investigators allege that Hridoy maintained a clandestine relationship with his ex-wife even after her marriage to Munna.
ADC Jewel Rana reported that Munna had previously issued threats to Hridoy via telephone, demanding that he cease communication with the woman. Despite these warnings, Hridoy continued the contact and was subsequently targeted upon returning to Bangladesh for a vacation. The suspects allegedly lured Hridoy to the Mohammadpur Limited area before assaulting him with sharp weapons.
Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a formal complaint at the Mohammadpur Police Station. The case names four individuals as primary suspects, including Munna, Russell (alias Anda Russell), Billal (alias Kala Billal), and Saiful (alias Gharkata Saiful), along with several unidentified accomplices.
Police stated that the arrested men are affiliated with a local juvenile gang. Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to apprehend the remaining suspects named in the case.
