Police Identify Woman Spotted Unconscious on Motorcycle Following Viral Social Media Posts

Police have identified a young woman who was photographed in an unconscious state while being transported on a motorcycle along the Abdullahpur-Tongi road, a viral image that sparked significant concern on social media. The woman appeared at the Tongi West Police Station on Saturday to provide a formal account of the incident.
The investigation began after Mufti Monowar Hossain, who was returning from Umrah via Dhaka airport, posted three photographs of the incident on Facebook. According to his post, he observed the motorcycle near Abdullahpur at approximately 3:00 a.m. last Wednesday. Hossain noted that a man was driving the vehicle, while another man seated behind him struggled to hold the unconscious woman steady as they traveled toward Tongi. Concerned that the woman might be deceased or in distress, Hossain captured the images from his private car and contacted the 999 emergency hotline.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police utilized CCTV footage and digital evidence to track down the individuals involved. The woman, who spoke to the media following her statement to police, explained that she had left her home Wednesday night due to family pressure. She stated that she visited a bar in the Jasimuddin area of Uttara, where she fell ill. Her relatives were subsequently called to retrieve her.
“I remember getting onto the motorcycle, but after that, I lost consciousness,” the woman told reporters. She added that she had come to the police station to clarify that she was alive, countering rumors circulated by her former husband claiming she had died.
Police confirmed that the woman is in good health. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime, South Division) SM Shafiqul Islam stated that the motorcycle departed from the Jasimuddin area with the intention of heading to Tongi; however, the group ultimately diverted to a friend’s house in Mirpur.
Authorities concluded that no major criminal activity occurred during the incident. Based on the woman’s testimony and their own investigation, police have categorized the matter as a personal and family-related issue. Following the interview, the woman was released into the custody of her sister, who resides in the Tongi area.
