Angry Mob Vandalizes Vehicle in Hathazari Following Reckless Driving Incident That Left Pedestrians Injured

CHITTAGONG — Angry locals vandalized a vehicle in the Hathazari Bazar area on the Chittagong-Khagrachhari highway Tuesday afternoon after the driver allegedly struck multiple pedestrians while speeding. Authorities have detained a woman found inside the vehicle and five individuals involved in the vandalism.
According to eyewitnesses and police, the red car, bearing registration number Chatto Metro-L 1847, was traveling at high speed from the Harualchhari area of Fatikchhari. The vehicle reportedly struck several pedestrians as it passed through Nazirhat, Sarkarhat, and Muniya Pukurpar. Concerned citizens contacted the national emergency service, 999, to alert law enforcement while attempting to pursue the vehicle.
The vehicle continued at a reckless pace despite attempts by locals to stop it. It was eventually intercepted by a crowd in the Hathazari Bazar area. Following the halt, the vehicle was vandalized by the surrounding crowd. While a male passenger managed to flee the scene, a woman remaining inside the vehicle was apprehended.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hathazari Police Station, Mohammad Zahidur Rahman, confirmed that police responded to the scene and took both the vehicle and the detained individuals into custody.
Initial investigations suggest that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of narcotics, which reportedly led to the reckless driving. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
