Former Nigerian footballer Michael Eneramo collapsed on the field during a friendly match on Friday and later died. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) reported this shocking news.

According to the NFF, he collapsed on the field just five minutes into the second half of the match held in Kaduna. According to preliminary information, the 40-year-old footballer ‘appeared to have suffered a heart attack.’

Eneramo played successfully in various clubs in Türkiye and Tunisia. He has played a total of 10 international matches for the Super Eagles. He made his debut for Nigeria in a friendly match against Jamaica in 2009.

NFF General Secretary Mohammad Sanusi said, “It is very painful. I don’t have the language right now. I can only pray that God will rest in peace and give his loved ones and the Nigerian football family the strength to bear this loss.”

Supporters of Tunisian club Esperance Sportive de Tunis called Eneramo ‘Tank’. According to the NFF, his physicality and “confident play” helped Esperance win the title.
