Runner dies after collapsing during Sonargaon 7.5K race in Narayanganj

A 40-year-old participant died after falling ill during a running competition in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, on Friday morning. The incident occurred in the Balua Dighirpar area at approximately 6:00 a.m. during the event titled “Sonargaon 7.5K Run 2026.”
The competition, organized by a local fitness group known as Sonargaon Runners, commenced at 6:00 a.m. from the Aminpur field near Panam Nagar. The event drew nearly 600 participants from across the country.
According to organizers and witnesses, the deceased, Tipu Sultan, collapsed while approximately halfway through the 7.5-kilometer course. Members of the event’s medical team provided immediate assistance and transported him to Sonargaon Seba General Hospital. He was subsequently transferred to Al Baraka Hospital in Madanpur for advanced care, where he was pronounced dead by attending physicians.
Tipu Sultan was a resident of Kathkhal village in Mithamain Upazila, Kishoreganj, and the son of the late Razzak Miah. He was employed as a personal assistant to Ashraf Pradhan, a businessman based in the Mograpara area of Sonargaon.
Shimul Bhuiyan, the chief organizer of the event, expressed deep condolences regarding the fatality. He stated that the medical team acted swiftly once Sultan showed signs of distress.
Azharul Islam Mannan, a member of parliament for the Narayanganj-3 constituency and the chief guest of the event, also joined the organizing committee in expressing their grief over the participant’s death.
