Buried Bodies of Missing Mother and Daughter Recovered from Rajbari-Faridpur Border Area

GOALANDA, BANGLADESH — Police have recovered the buried bodies of a woman and her minor daughter from a border location adjacent to the Jyotin Bodyirpara area under Goalanda Upazila in Rajbari. The bodies were exhumed from a shallow grave near a local pond around 4:00 PM on Thursday with the active assistance of local residents.

The location where the crime was concealed borders Ward 7 of the Ujanchar Union in Goalanda and Ansardangi village under the Ishan Gopalpur Union of Faridpur Sadar Upazila. According to Khobir Hossain, a former member of the Ujanchar Union Parishad, the pond where the bodies were hidden belongs to Hakim Ullah, a resident of Ansardangi village. The gruesome discovery was made when local farmers working in the adjacent agricultural fields noticed a strong, foul odor blanketing the area. Upon tracing the source of the smell to the edge of the pond, they discovered portions of a human foot protruding from the dug-up earth. The terrified farmers immediately alerted the Goalanda Ghat Police Station.

A police team led by Inspector Rashidul Islam arrived at the scene and began digging up the site with the help of the gathered locals. They first exhumed the body of a young child and subsequently recovered the body of a woman buried directly underneath. As the exhumation was underway, a team from Faridpur’s Kotwali Police Station also reached the spot to coordinate the operation.

Because the burial site sits exactly on the geographic border separating the two districts, primary assessments indicated that the specific coordinates fall just within the territorial boundary of Faridpur district. Senior police officials from both Rajbari and Faridpur administrative zones rushed to the spot to review the jurisdictional data. Following a coordinated assessment involving local representatives, senior law enforcement officials, and professional land surveyors, it was officially established that the crime scene lies within the Faridpur district limits. Accordingly, custody of the two recovered bodies was formally transferred to the Faridpur Kotwali Police Station for mandatory post-mortem examinations, registration of a homicide case, and further legal procedures.
