Video satirizing Mirza Fakhrul, content creator handed over to police

A content creator of Rajshahi’s Bagmara has been handed over to the police for spreading a satirical video of BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on social media.

The name of the content creator is Abdul Quader (31). But he is known as Sajeeb on social media. His father’s name is Kamrul Islam.

On Wednesday morning, a video satirizing Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was spread from a platform called ‘Dia Blog’. On the occasion of the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore last Friday, Mirza Fakhrul was the chief guest at a function organized by the Ministry of Culture and Naogaon District Administration at Rabindra Kacharibari in Patisar, Atrai Upazila of Naogaon. He inaugurated the programme.

A group of content creators created satirical videos around the opening. They were led by Shimul, famous for ‘Chhatar Juti’. It can be seen in the video, some Tiktok led by Shimul stopped midway while going to Patisar in Atrai, Naogaon in a private vehicle and recorded the video. The minister was trolled there.

When the video spread, there was a huge reaction. Local leaders of Chhatra Dal and Youth Dal as well as BNP leaders also gave an ultimatum to apologize. The video was later removed from Facebook but others saved it and spread it on social media and demanded justice.

The content creator released another video admitting his mistake and apologizing. He said he makes funny videos. That’s why Rabindra made a funny video about the opening of the fair.

It was alleged that the leaders of Juba Dal, Tanti Dal and BNP beat up Abdul Quader and handed him over to the police last night. They claim that the manner in which an honorable person and minister has been spoken is defamatory.

Bagmara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zillur Rahman said on Thursday morning that action is being taken against the content creator handed over to the police station. If anyone else is involved, we will investigate and take swift action.
