University shuttle train sees banned student group posters go viral

A video circulating on social media shows individuals attaching posters to a shuttle train at Chittagong University, demanding the release of arrested student activists. The video, which began appearing on various Facebook pages and profiles Monday morning, is approximately one minute long. It depicts two shuttle trains stationary at the city’s Bottali Station at night, with at least two posters visible on the carriages.

While the posters were reportedly placed on Sunday night, they were not found on any of the university’s shuttle trains by Monday morning. University officials stated that such an act would be difficult to carry out while the trains are on campus. “It’s not possible to put up posters like this while the shuttle train is on university grounds,” said Assistant Proctor Md. Kamrul Hossain. “Perhaps someone attached them at Bottali Station. No one has lodged a complaint with us regarding this matter.”

The university’s Proctor, Hossain Shahid Sarwardi, suggested a pattern of behavior by some student groups. “They put up posters and then tear them down themselves. They sometimes post videos of poster-hanging on Facebook or inform the media. No one has informed us about any new poster-hanging incidents,” he commented.

Authorities at the Chittagong Railway Police Station said they had not been officially notified of the incident. “No one has informed the police about this matter. However, we are vigilant. If anyone is identified in connection with this incident, no leniency will be shown. Some individuals may have carried out this act discreetly,” stated Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Hassan.
