Two teenagers killed in Patuakhali motorcycle crash following Eid prayers

Two teenagers were killed in a motorcycle collision in the Galachipa sub-district of Patuakhali on Thursday, marring the local Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. The accident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. when the victims’ motorcycle collided head-on with a passenger auto-rickshaw near the Grameen Bank area of the town.

The deceased have been identified as 16-year-olds Faisal Hawlader and Tamim Matubbar, both residents of the Shyamlibag area. Faisal, a student at a madrasa in Dhaka’s Kakrail, had returned home to celebrate the holiday, while Tamim was a tenth-grade student at the Galachipa Government Model Secondary School.

Witnesses reported that the two youths had set out for a ride following Eid prayers when the collision occurred. The force of the impact caused them to lose control of their motorcycle and be thrown onto the road. Bystanders rushed both victims to the Galachipa Upazila Health Complex, where medical staff declared Tamim dead upon arrival.

Faisal was initially transported to the facility in critical condition alongside two passengers from the auto-rickshaw, identified as 50-year-old Sohrab Hossain and 25-year-old Sharif. Given the severity of their injuries, medical personnel referred Faisal to the Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. He succumbed to his wounds while in transit.

Mohammad Imtiaz Ahmed, the officer-in-charge of Galachipa Police Station, confirmed that authorities dispatched officers to the scene to investigate the incident. As of Thursday afternoon, no formal complaints had been filed by the victims’ families.
