Dhaka University students launch flood relief campaign for Chittagong victims

Students from the 105th batch of Dhaka University have launched a relief and fundraising campaign to support flood-affected communities in the Chittagong region. The initiative, which began on Monday at the university’s Student-Teacher Centre (TSC), aims to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to those displaced by ongoing severe flooding.
Although the organizers initially planned to establish collection booths across various locations on campus, persistent rainfall forced them to consolidate operations at a single site at the TSC. Despite these logistical hurdles, the students remain committed to their goal of purchasing essential supplies, including dry rations, purified water, oral rehydration salts, polythene sheets, and emergency medical kits.

According to the organizers, the distribution process will be coordinated by Chittagong-born students currently enrolled at the university, working in tandem with local volunteers on the ground to ensure that aid reaches isolated and waterlogged areas as quickly as possible.
Tanoy Ahmed, a student from the Department of Botany, noted that the effort represents a collective response from the student body to the deepening national crisis. The campaign began on July 12 with internal fundraising across university halls. While weather conditions limited the number of active collection points over the weekend, the students have maintained transparency by providing real-time updates regarding their progress and funding status through online platforms.

The campaign is scheduled to expand significantly on Tuesday, with three designated booths operating between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to bolster the relief fund. As of Sunday, the students reported that they had successfully raised over 70,000 taka through hall-based contributions and digital transactions via bKash.
