The Minister of Culture inaugurated the canal digging work in Mohammadpur

In Mohammadpur upazila, 15 km canal digging work has been inaugurated to increase agricultural production and protect environmental balance.
Culture Minister Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury officially inaugurated the canal digging program from Raipur Sluichgate area of Babukhali Union of Upazila to Balidia Nirvishkhali at noon on Saturday (April 11).
In the speech of the chief guest, the minister said that one of the demands of the people of the area before the elections was the digging of canals. This project has been undertaken in continuation of the implementation of that promise.
He further said that once the canal is completed, it will facilitate water drainage during the monsoon season, farmers will directly benefit and crop production will increase. Besides, the long-standing waterlogging problem will also be permanently solved.
According to Upazila Project Implementation Office sources, about 15 km canal will be dug from Babukhali Raipur Sluicgate to Balidia Nirvishkhali. The total cost of the project has been estimated at 3 crore 86 lakhs. Around 892 workers will be engaged in this work daily under the supervision of local union council chairmen.
