Businessman killed, brother wounded in Narsingdi home invasion

A local businessman was killed and his brother critically injured early Saturday morning during an armed robbery at their residence in Narsingdi’s Madhabdi upazila. The attack, which occurred around 2:00 a.m. in the Ballabhadradi area of Nuralapur union, has sparked renewed concerns over public safety in the region.
According to local police and witnesses, a group of eight to ten unidentified assailants forced their way into the home of Shahjahan Bhuiyan. The victim and his brother, Suruj Bhuiyan, reportedly confronted the intruders after realizing a robbery was underway. The attackers held the family at knifepoint before turning their weapons on the brothers when they attempted to resist. Shahjahan Bhuiyan succumbed to his wounds at the scene, while his brother sustained severe injuries and was subsequently transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced emergency care.

Witnesses reported that the robbers rampaged through the home for approximately 25 minutes, fleeing with gold jewelry, cash, and mobile phones. Local residents alerted to the commotion arrived shortly after the suspects departed, facilitating the transport of the injured to the hospital.
Madhabdi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kamal Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that the victim’s body has been sent to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Authorities have initiated a formal investigation, and while no suspects have been identified or apprehended yet, officials have pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice.

This violent episode follows a recent string of criminal activity in the area. On July 10, thieves targeted three separate households in Madhabdi’s Kathalia union in a single night—a series of robberies for which no arrests have been made to date.
