Teenager detained in Khagrachhari over attempted rape of minor

Police in the Khagrachari district of Panchhari have detained a 17-year-old youth on allegations of attempting to rape a five-year-old child. The suspect was taken into custody at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

According to local sources and the victim’s family, the incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Friday while the child was playing in her courtyard. The teenager reportedly lured the girl away by promising to show her cartoons on his mobile phone before allegedly attempting to assault her. Upon returning home, the child recounted the incident to her mother, prompting the father to file a formal verbal complaint with the local police station later that evening.

Officer-in-Charge Md. Ferdous Wahid of the Panchhari Police Station confirmed that the suspect was apprehended immediately following the complaint. Authorities have advised the victim’s family to seek medical attention for the child at a hospital.

While the victim’s family has yet to file a formal criminal case, the police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Officials stated that they are taking the necessary legal actions as the inquiry into the teenager’s conduct continues.
