US Special Envoy Sergio Gor Holds Talks with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in Dhaka

Sergio Gor, the U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Saturday to discuss strengthening bilateral ties between Washington and Dhaka.

According to Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Rony, the discussion focused on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, as well as fostering regional stability and addressing matters of mutual interest. The meeting was attended by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, and Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, alongside U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen.

Gor arrived in Dhaka on July 30 and held initial talks with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman shortly after his arrival. Prior to his meeting with the Prime Minister, the special envoy traveled to Cox’s Bazar on Friday to visit Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya. During that visit, he observed humanitarian relief operations and engaged directly with members of the displaced community to assess their current living conditions and needs.

Throughout his official visit, the special envoy has been accompanied by a delegation from the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, led by Ambassador Christensen.
