Suspected Explosive Device Found at Bangladeshi Home With Ominous Note

Police in Bangladesh’s Meherpur district recovered a bomb-like device from the main gate of a resident’s house on Wednesday morning, prompting an investigation into what authorities suspect was an attempt to incite panic. The object was discovered around 9 AM in Teantulbaria village, Gangni Upazila, and subsequently taken into police custody.
Local residents first spotted the black tape-wrapped object lying in front of the main gate of Sanowar Hossain Palash’s home. The discovery quickly spread through the community, generating significant alarm and fear among villagers. A team from Gangni police station responded to the scene and secured the object.

Police describe the recovered item as being wrapped in black tape and resembling a crude bomb or “cocktail bomb.” Authorities are initially theorizing that the device was placed there by an unknown party with the intention of creating public fear. This incident marks the eleventh time a bomb-like or cocktail bomb-like object has been recovered from various villages within Gangni Upazila since August 5, 2024.
Several local residents reported seeing a white paper attached to the black-taped object, bearing a chilling message. The note, written in Bengali, read, “If you touch it, it will burst. Be well. Bye, bye.”

Al Mamun, a police officer from Gangni Police Station, confirmed that the object is currently held in police custody as investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the incident. He added that appropriate legal action would be taken in connection with the matter.
