The youth was allegedly beaten to death during the operation

During the operation of the Directorate of Narcotics Control in Magura’s Mohammadpur Upazila, a youth named Akubbar Hossain (40) has been accused of beating to death by some members of the Directorate.
The incident took place at Charpara village of Binodpur union of the upazila around 11 o’clock on Sunday.
It is said that the deceased Akubbar is the son of Majed Molya of that village.
According to family and local sources, a team of 11 members led by Inspector Sahara Yasmin of Magura Narcotics Control Directorate raided Akubbar’s house around 9 am on Sunday. At that time, he was called from his sleeping state and handcuffed.
It is alleged that some members including Sepoy Mithun beat him severely with sticks, in which he was seriously injured.
On hearing Akubbar’s screams, the local people came to the spot and surrounded the members who participated in the raid and informed the Mohammadpur police station. Later the police came and rescued him injured and sent him to Magura Sadar Hospital where he died on the way.
Magura District Additional Superintendent of Police Dipankar Roy, Mohammadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahanur Zaman went to the deceased’s house after receiving the news.
Josna Begum, the wife of the deceased, complained that my husband was sleeping. Suddenly he was dragged and beaten. They beat my husband to death.
Some local residents including Saddam Hossain, Shabana and Monirul who were present at the scene said that Akubbar was beaten up in a planned manner in the name of raid. When Akubbar asked for water while seriously injured, he was not given water. They demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the incident.
Mohammadpur Police Station OC Md. Ashrafuzzaman said that about 300 grams of ganja was recovered from Akubbar Hossain during the operation. Besides, there are four drug-related cases against him. Necessary legal action will be taken subject to investigation, said the concerned.
