Speculation mounts over potential Sheikh Hasina visit to India amid diplomatic uncertainty

Speculation regarding the potential visit of Tareque Rahman to India intensified on Friday following an announcement from Rashtrapati Bhavan. Officials initially canceled the “Change of Guard” ceremony scheduled for August 22, which was intended as part of the preparations for a reception for the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. However, the cancellation was retracted within an hour.
Diplomatic sources in Dhaka and New Delhi indicated that the proposed visit by Sheikh Hasina remains uncertain due to conditions imposed by Dhaka, including discussions regarding the extradition of the former Prime Minister and concerns over her recent conduct.
While official channels maintain that bilateral discussions remain ongoing, the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary stated that no final decision regarding the visit has been reached.
