Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Expands Cabinet to 51 Members Following Presidential Oath of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expanded his cabinet on Friday, six months after the government took office, increasing the total number of cabinet members to 51. The expansion saw the induction of four new ministers and two new state ministers, while one state minister was elevated to the rank of cabinet minister.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir administered the oaths of office to the new appointees at Bangabhaban on Friday evening, shortly after his own swearing-in ceremony. The cabinet now consists of the Prime Minister, 26 ministers, and 24 state ministers, marking an increase from the previous 48-member count.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Goni conducted the proceedings, announcing the appointments of Abdul Moyeen Khan, a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee; Rashiduzzaman Millat, BNP treasurer and lawmaker for Jamalpur-1; Saching Pru Jerry, lawmaker for Bandarban; and Andaleeve Rahman Partho, chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP).
Rashiduzzaman Millat, who previously served as a state minister, was elevated to cabinet rank. The two newly appointed state ministers are Humayun Kabir, a technocrat who previously served as the Prime Minister’s foreign policy adviser, and Mohammad Shamim Kayser (Lincoln), lawmaker for Gaibandha-4.
Following the ceremony, the Cabinet Division issued a notification detailing the redistribution of portfolios. Abdul Moyeen Khan has been appointed Minister of Local Government, a post left vacant following Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s elevation to the presidency. Rashiduzzaman Millat, previously the State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, has been promoted to head the same ministry. Afroza Khanam (Rita), who held the civil aviation portfolio, has been transferred to the Ministry of Food.
Saching Pru Jerry has been appointed Minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of Dipen Dewan three months ago. Andaleeve Rahman Partho has been assigned the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. His predecessor, Jahir Uddin Swapan, has been appointed as an adviser to the Prime Minister, maintaining the total number of advisers at 10.
Humayun Kabir has been appointed State Minister for Foreign Affairs, where he will serve alongside incumbent State Minister Shama Obaid Islam. Mohammad Shamim Kayser has been named State Minister for Religious Affairs.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s government assumed office on February 17, following the victory of the BNP-led alliance in the 13th national parliamentary elections. The cabinet has undergone multiple reshuffles since its initial formation to accommodate new members and address administrative needs.
