Raozan Police Allege Mob Lynching After Elderly Man Found Dead in Field

Police in Raozan, Chattogram, recovered the bloody body of an unidentified 70-year-old man on Monday, alleging he was killed by a mob late Sunday night on suspicion of cow theft. Local residents, however, stated they were unaware of any such lynching incident.
Villagers discovered the elderly man’s body lying in an open field near Byinna Pukurpar in Ward 9 of Raozan Municipality around noon on Monday and immediately alerted authorities. The body bore multiple injury marks and was heavily bloodstained.
Police arrived at the scene around 1 p.m., recovered the remains, and sent them to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Raozan Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Nizam Uddin Dewan told Prothom Alo that unidentified individuals had beaten the man to death, suspecting him of attempting to steal cattle, before abandoning his body.
Despite the police’s assertion, residents of the Byinna Pukurpar area informed reporters they had no knowledge of a mob lynching occurring there. Authorities are continuing efforts to identify the deceased man.
