Scattered rainfall began Sunday across parts of Bangladesh, offering a potential reprieve from a persistent heatwave that has gripped the nation. The Meteorological Department forecasts intermittent showers across various regions for the remainder of April, with a strong possibility of rain reaching the capital, Dhaka, by Monday.

Showers commenced in the Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions on Sunday, with meteorological officials anticipating these cloud systems to extend towards Rajshahi and Mymensingh. This atmospheric shift is also projected to influence the Dhaka division, which could experience afternoon rainfall today.

While a slight chance of rain exists for Dhaka city this Sunday afternoon, meteorologists predict a higher likelihood of significant rainfall for the capital on Monday.

The recent spell of rain follows a prolonged period of intense heat. A heatwave initially swept across Bangladesh at the beginning of April, becoming widespread by April 3rd. Although temporarily alleviated by an increase in pre-monsoon storms later in the month, a fresh heatwave resurfaced over the past week, eventually affecting 24 districts.

The capital itself has been under the grip of this renewed heat, recording 36.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Rajshahi experienced the country’s highest temperature yesterday, reaching 38.4 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologist Md. Omar Faruk indicated that the current rainy spell, which began Saturday, is expected to persist through the end of April and potentially into early May. This anticipated precipitation is largely predicted to diminish the ongoing heatwave across most parts of the country, though some areas within the Khulna division might continue to experience elevated temperatures.
