RAB raids clandestine Yaba factory in Keraniganj, arrests four

Elite units of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) raided a clandestine drug manufacturing facility in Keraniganj on Thursday night, dismantling a sophisticated operation used to produce the synthetic stimulant yaba. The operation resulted in the seizure of nearly 2,000 finished pills, raw chemical components, and specialized production machinery.
During a press briefing at the RAB Media Center in Dhaka on Friday, Commanding Officer Additional DIG Mohammad Asaduzzaman confirmed the arrest of four individuals at the site: Md. Alamgir, 40; Md. Ali Arman, 36; Md. Shahjahan, 40; and Sonia Begum, 30. Authorities acted on intelligence reports indicating that a criminal syndicate had established a localized production hub within the Madhyachar South Baluchar area.
Investigators seized 1,968 yaba tablets, a digital scale, and several mobile phones during the raid. According to RAB, the suspects had been refining their own production methods for approximately two years, repurposing industrial-grade chemicals to manufacture the illicit narcotics. Preliminary interrogations revealed that the syndicate utilized an extensive distribution network spanning Kamrangirchar, Old Dhaka, and other parts of the capital.
The suspects identified during the raid are reportedly part of a larger, organized drug ring. Officials noted that the primary suspect, Alamgir, has three prior drug-related cases pending against him in the Rampura, Kamrangirchar, and Mohammadpur areas. All four detainees face charges under the Narcotics Control Act.
RAB officials stated that they intend to seek remand for the suspects to uncover the sources of their raw materials and map the full extent of their distribution network. Law enforcement agencies are currently conducting follow-up operations to identify and apprehend remaining members of the criminal organization.
