Police officer dies after being thrown from auto-rickshaw in suspected hit-and-run
A police officer in Bangladesh has died after being critically injured when he was allegedly thrown from a battery-powered auto-rickshaw he was escorting. Constable Abdul Kudduus, 55, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Kudduus, who was attached to the Traffic West Division of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police, was reportedly apprehending an unauthorized auto-rickshaw late Friday night in the Rasmani Ghat area of Pahar tal i, according to police. He was taking the vehicle to the Mansurabad dumping station with the driver’s assistance. During the transport, the driver allegedly pushed Kudduus, causing him to fall and strike a road divider. He sustained severe head injuries and was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital by local residents.

Confirming the incident, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, Wahidul Haque Chowdhury, told Prothom Alo that Kudduus had been admitted to the hospital’s ICU following the head trauma.
Chowdhury added that a case was filed at Pahar tal i police station on the day of the incident. The auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Abdul Jalil, was arrested with the help of local residents and is currently in custody.
