The bodies of two missing schoolgirls who went down to bathe in the river in Gazipur’s Sreepur have been recovered. On Friday afternoon, two people went down to take a bath in the Banar river in the village of Chokhekhani of the upazila. Family members recovered one’s body in the afternoon. The fire service diving team recovered the body of another missing person in the evening.
Deceased Subarna Akhter (16) is the daughter of Shyamal Moral and Marzia Akhtar (16) is the daughter of Milan Moral of the same village. They were class 10 students of Gosinga High School in the nearby village of Gosinga.
Local people said that in the afternoon, some people went to bathe in Banar river near the house. After some time Surbana and Marjia drowned while swimming. At this time, Subarna’s younger sister saw the matter and informed the house. Later the relatives rescued Subarna dead from the river. On the other hand, Marzia was missing. On receiving the information, the diving team of the fire service went to the spot and started the rescue operation. Marzia’s body was recovered from the spot at around 7:30 p.m. by members of the diving team.
Nurul Karim, warehouse inspector of Sreepur Fire Service, said that a diving team of Fire Service from Dhaka went to the spot and recovered the body of a person.
