Police Detain 18 Members of Notorious Juvenile Gang in Noakhali Crackdown

Police in Noakhali detained 18 individuals on Friday during a special operation targeting a local youth gang known as “KPG.” The sweep, conducted by law enforcement in the Pourashaba market area of Maijdi, resulted in the apprehension of 17 minors and one adult.

According to police reports, the KPG group has been under investigation for an extended period due to their alleged involvement in a variety of criminal activities. Authorities are currently in the process of verifying the identities and ages of those detained to determine the appropriate legal response.

The operation comes amid rising concerns from local residents regarding the prevalence of youth gangs throughout the district. Community members report that several gangs have been operating openly in Maijdi, frequently engaging in public displays with sharp weapons. These groups have recently staged coordinated shows of force, creating an environment of insecurity that has disrupted the daily lives of pedestrians and local business owners.

Sudharam Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Touhidul Islam confirmed that officials are reviewing the specific criminal records and complaints associated with the detained individuals. He noted that further legal action will be finalized following consultations with senior department officials.

Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Toyeb Mohammad Arif Hossain stated that the Noakhali district police have launched a wider crackdown to dismantle these youth criminal networks. The initiative, which extends across the district’s various sub-districts, is intended to curb gang activity and restore public order.
